Driveway leveling with polyurethane foam
Driveway panels often drop near the garage, at the sidewalk edge or where downspouts discharge. If the slab is still largely intact, injecting expanding polyurethane beneath it can fill the void and raise it back toward its original plane.
Why it settles
- Poorly compacted fill placed during construction, especially beside new foundations
- Water from downspouts or grading washing fine soil out from under the slab edge
- Freeze-thaw cycles loosening and redistributing the sub-base
- Clay soils shrinking during dry periods
Often suitable
- Panels that have settled as a unit and are not broken into many pieces
- Trip edges or reverse slope toward the garage or house
- Hollow-sounding areas indicating a void beneath the slab
Usually not suitable
- Concrete that is shattered, crumbling or heavily spalled
- Slabs that have heaved upward (lifting cannot lower concrete)
- Asphalt or paver driveways — different repair methods apply
Risks, drainage and other considerations
- Correct the water source (downspouts, grading) or settlement may recur
- Existing cracks usually remain visible after lifting, though they may close somewhat
- Joints are typically resealed afterward to limit water entry
- When the driveway can be used again depends on the foam product and site conditions — your contractor should confirm
Lift or replace?
Lifting keeps the existing concrete, so it makes sense only when that concrete is worth keeping. If it is broken up, deteriorated or heaved, replacement is usually the better route. See lifting vs replacement and what affects cost.

Questions
Can a cracked driveway panel be lifted?
Often, if the pieces are large and still interlocked. Badly broken or crumbling concrete is usually better replaced. An on-site assessment is the only reliable way to decide.
Will the injection holes show?
Small holes are drilled and patched afterward. The patches are usually visible up close because new patching material rarely matches aged concrete exactly.
Why did my driveway sink in the first place?
Most often loose fill or water washing soil away. The assessment should identify the likely cause so it can be corrected alongside the lift.
