How to choose a polyjacking contractor
Eight questions every Canadian homeowner should ask before signing a concrete leveling quote.
- 1
What density of foam do you use?
Reputable contractors use 3–6 lb/ft³ structural foam for residential work. Lower densities are sealants, not lifting foams.
- 2
Is the warranty in writing and transferable?
A real warranty is on paper, transferable to the next homeowner, and clearly defines re-settlement criteria.
- 3
Are you insured and WCB-covered?
Always confirm both. Ask for a current certificate before work begins.
- 4
Will you do a void-fill phase before lifting?
Skipping void fill is the #1 reason cheap polyjacking fails. The void must be filled first or the slab settles again.
- 5
How will you monitor the lift?
Laser monitoring is standard. Eye-balling a lift is a red flag.
- 6
What's your hole-patch process?
Color-matched cement patches that fade with age are standard. Anything else is sloppy.
- 7
Can you provide local references?
Real contractors have nearby jobs they can show you. Drive-by references are gold.
- 8
What's NOT included in your quote?
A good contractor flags what's excluded — patio extensions, additional panels, or related drainage fixes.
Red flags to walk away from
- • Door-to-door cold quotes with same-day urgency pressure
- • Cash-only pricing with no written contract
- • "Lifetime" warranties without defined terms
- • Refusal to name the foam manufacturer
- • No physical business address or vehicle branding
